Here is a picture from early November of the wood construction of the
main bridge in the city
|
Christmas City, the name originates from the Golden
Gate Bridge model that was 1st built in 1997for the Christmas City
light display. The bridge was built to add an impressive new type
of structure to the light display.
|
The bridge stands 12 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and 48 feet long. Chasing lights were used to represent traffic moving across the bridge; one clear set for oncoming traffic and one red set for ongoing traffic. The bridge itself holds 900 lights and 280 for the traffic animation. Built w/: four 4”x6”x12’, six 2x4x16’, two garden hoses, and eight 1x3x12’. Construction time: 3 days initially, 4-6 hours to put up thereafter. Cost: $100. | |
City Buildings were then modeled next to the bridge to give a city skyline effect. |
|
In 1998, the city skyline was a New York skyline, with the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in the middle. For 1999, the city became a city with structures from different cities, featuring The Golden Gate Bridge,St. Louis Arch, (in the works now for 2000) Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building, and the Twin Towers (Added for 1999). The city contains over 5000 lights. Construction time will be: 5-8 days. Total cost: $500. |
The St. Louis Arch was built for 1999; it stands about 22 feet in the air and is constructed of electrical conduit piping. It contains 5 sets of 100 clear lights. The parts list for the Arch only added up to a price of less than $40. Built w/: fifteen 10’ electrical conduit pipes, scrape plywood, wire, and six 4’ rebar. Construction time: 1 day. Cost: $40. |
